Topological Data Analysis and String Theory Vacua
I will discuss some recent applications of the ideas of topological data analysis to string theory. String theory is a framework which provides a self-consistent mathematical model describing all known fundamental forces of nature and forms of matter. It is however very difficult to connect it to the observed universe; attempts to do so produce a large number of possible solutions, called the string theory landscape. In this talk I will give a very basic introduction to these issues, and suggest that topological data analysis could provide a different perspective on this problem.
