The very first steps towards the IMUS creation began at spring of 1999, when the keepers of research projects decided to boost the initiative. During the following months, the application of creation was submitted to the Board of Governors of the University of Seville(Government Council of the University of Seville) in December 1999. The University of Seville approved the creation of the IMUS in 2000 and submitted to the Junta de Andalucía (Regional Government of Andalusia). In late 2005 the Andalusian University Council approved the normative framework for the creation of University Research Institutes and in October 2006 was presented the new memory (report)of the creation of IMUS, once adapted to the aforementioned normative. The Governing Council of the Junta de Andalucía finally approved the creation of the IMUS in July 2007, and the University of Seville formalized in November 2007.
