BRAIDS IN SEVILLE

  is an international conference on the Theory of Braids, to be held at the E.T.S. Ingeniería Informática (School of Computer Science) of the University of Seville, on June 13-17, 2011.

It is organized by the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Seville (IMUS) and the French Research Network Tresses, GDR 2105 CNRS.

In addition to the contributed talks on the latest developements in the Theory of Braids, selected by the scientific committee among those proposed by the participants, there will be four mini-courses. They are mainly addressed to advanced doctoral students and young doctors that, in addition to learning the basic concepts and the recent advances of the Theory of Braids, from distinct points of view, will have the opportunity to get in touch with some of the most recognized experts in the subject.


FOUR MINI-COURSES WILL BE GIVEN BY:

  • John Etnyre (Georgia Institute of Technology) Braids and Contact Geometry
  • Volker Gebhardt (University of Western Sydney) Algorithms and Garside groups
  • Dan Margalit (Georgia Institute of Technology) Braids and mapping class groups
  • Luis Paris (Université de Bourgogne) Geometric representations of braid groups
